This has been a strange year, weatherwise. It has been a long, stormy winter. So when the sun came out and the sky cleared on this day, I decided to take the Piper Archer out for some cross country. In my attempt to land on as many public airports in California, I decided on Reid-Hiillview in San Jose, and Los Banos. This will be my first time to both airports. Reid-Hillview Airport, San Jose: Reid-Hillview (RHV) is the only GA airport in San Jose. Otherwise, the alternative airport would be the more busy, complex and expensive Class C Norman Mineta International Airport. Unfortunately, some San Jose residents, not convinced of the benefits of RHV, are fighting to close this airport. Hopefully, this will not happen. RHV is a very convenient airport when doing business in San Jose/ Santa Clara area. It has several competing FBO's, flight schools and a pilot shop and rental cars just outside the terminal building. For shoppers, Eastridge Mall is in short final for 31R (preferred calm wind runway). For those seeking adventure, Raging Waters Waterpark is also nearby. |
