I was a great flying weather today so I took the opportunity to do some flying before the winter weather will limit my VFR flying. I have not been in Healdsburg, so why not land there. Again, I left my camera at home so I'm taking pictures from my cellphone. I heard a lot of nice things about Healdsburg for being in the heart of the Sonoma area wine country. Landed using right traffic at 13 this Sunday afternoon. The whole airport was isolated. Not a soul in sight. I decided not to bother getting off, took some pictures from my cellphone and took off. Santa Rosa was along the way. I flew over Santa Rosa airport several times but has never landed there. So, I decided to stop by this time. This is another benefit flying your own airplane; the flexibility to drop by an airport just because. I called out Santa Rosa tower and was cleared straight-in for 14. I parked in front of Sonoma Jet FBO next to the tower. There were some construction work going on around the terminal building. I went inside the terminal to look around. It has clean restrooms and nice looking restaurant -- Sky Lounge. Maybe one of these days I'll go eat there to check it out. Santa Rosa does have regional commercial flights so it could be busy with travelers. Santa Rosa is also another popular fly-in destinations for those visiting the wine country. This time, it was quite except for some guests in the Sky Lounge restaurant. Parking lot for travelers is conveniently located right outside the terminal building. My flight back from Santa Rosa to Napa was a beautiful, smooth night flight. |
