I've been revisiting Nut Tree airport lately. A lot of improvements were made in the nearby Nut Tree Plaza with several shopping, entertainment and food dining options --- and just a short walk from the airport using the walkway. |

Fenton's supersized sundae.
Entrance to the Nut Tree Plaza is just a short walking distance from the airport without crossing the freeway.
The food court patio --- and there are additional eating options within the plaza beyond the food court area.
The Nut Tree train is restored back.
Better recheck the weight and balance calculation after taking on Fenton's banana split.
This walkway makes these visits to the nearby Nut Tree Plaza and to the outlet stores convenient.
April 7, 2012 Napa (APC) - Vacaville Nut Tree (VCB) Update It's been awhile that I landed in Vacaville Nut Tree Airport. This used to be one of my favorite practice airport because it's close from Napa but you need to fly higher to at least 3,500 feet to fly over the mountain ranges between Vallejo and Fairfield. This short hop gives you a feel of a mini-cross country flight. However, it was not much of a destination airport. The selections of destinations within walking distance from the airport were limited. So I stopped landing here. But I heard some improvements lately. So, as the tail end of the winter weather cleared up, I took N2565U to Vacaville. One significant addition to Nut Tree airport is that there's now an FBO. It's operated by Mountain West. I believe this is the same outfit that operated the South Lake Tahoe FBO. They always provided exceptional service in South Lake Tahoe so, this should be a big plus here in Nut Tree. The FBO is located in the building close to the fuel station. I believe the flight school inside the terminal building is also still operational. There's now a shortcut gravel walkway to the nearby shops from the airport. It starts behind Hanger B6 past the fuel station. This will cut some walking time compared in the past where we have to walk behind the Lowes docking area. As for places to eat, there's now a Denny's right in front of Lowe's. Over the freeway, there's Popeye's and, for those looking for the "$100 Hamburger", a Carl's Jr. While there, might as well go shopping at the famous Nut Tree Factory Outlet. I believe the other dining selections from the nearby shops are still there; I just didn't have the time to check them out during this visit. It sure feels things are happening here in Nut Tree. |

A new addition --- a gravel walkway to the nearby shops and restaurants.
Sign past Lowe's pointing back to the walkway towards the airport.
Mountain West FBO. | |
Inside the terminal building is a flight school, a flight planning station, vending machine, airport administration office, and most importantly, clean restrooms. Take note of the security gate code.
One of these days, I got to check out these static displays.
New addition to nearby dining selections - Denny's.
And just over the freeway - Popeye's.
.... and Carl's Jr. | |
And might as well go shopping too. |
