I was in Fresno Chandler airport for another
Pilot-n-Paws rescue flight. We're told by the volunteers that the animal shelters
in Fresno area are always overcrowded. We always get rescue flight requests from Fresno
to adoption agencies in the bay area. Today is one of those rescue flights. I volunteered
to fly a 7 month doberman puppy, and a smaller mixed breed dog to Livermore.
Last time I flew to Fresno was in March 2010; I remember it was cooler that time that I was wearing a jacket.
Fresno Chandler also had two runways then.
This time, it was hot! ---- around 100 degrees. The old runway 12L/30R was X'ed out.
There were traffic in the pattern upon arrival using Rwy 12.
Refueled while waiting for the volunteers to arrive. I landed around 11:45am, and it was hot!
Inside the Fresno Chandler terminal building. It still has the old ticket booth and waiting benches. The space where the restaurant used to be was vacant. The restrooms inside were clean.
The volunteers arrived soon carrying this very scared doberman puppy....
... and was transfered to a large crate in the passenger area.
This small mix breed is ready for transport in the luggage area.
Arrived in Livermore and tower directed me to land at Rwy 25R.
And was met by John from the bay area Rocket Rescue.
Looks like Livermore is building a newer terminal building. Both the old and new terminal buildings were locked closed during my visit. Livermore ground control was able to provide flight following squawk before takeoff for my flight back to Napa. |
