August 17, 2019 - San Gabriel Valley/El Monte
Landed here at San Gabriel Valley airport for the first time. It used to be called
El Monte airport; in fact, ATC still refered it as El Monte on radio calls.
Was cleared to land at Rwy. 19 after being handed off from SoCall App (124.6). I found
the runway and ramp well marked and in good condition. Parked at the transient parking in front
of the terminal building. Chain tie-downs were "newish".
The AC inside the terminal building was a welcome relief from the
hot weather outside. The terminal building is spacious, clean with well maintained restrooms. It also
has a restaurant -- Annia's Kitchen. It looks popular by the number of customers. But it closes
at 3:00pm, so I didn't get a chance to try it.
Line personnel waived my transient overnight parking fee since I ordered fuel from the truck.
On departure, ground provided me flight following squawk code and SoCal Departure frequency (124.6).

![]() | I believe this is the first time I've hit 140kts flying the Archer, thus worth documenting. |
