Oct. 19, 2013 Update - 2nd Humanitarian Trip to San Felipe, Mexico

Alex and Susan went back for another humanitarian trip to San Felipe, Mexico as part of the Flying Samaritans. As in the previous trip, this was a joint effort with the San Felipe chapter of Lions Club, the Mission San Felipe Church, and other local volunteers. This time, there were two free medical clinics offered --- one for ENT surgeries, and the other was the eye clinic. Alex and Susan were at the eye clinic.

This is indeed another successful and blessed trip --- our travel was smooth and incident free, and we were able to better the lives to others by providing them with better vision in the eye clinic (and healthier being for those operated at the ENT clinic).

Traveling to missions sometimes mean waking up before sunrise and having breakfast as opportunity exists; in this case, Susan grabbing a breakfast at Bakersfield Muni airport ramp as Alex preflight the plane for early morning flight to San Felipe, Mexico.

Patients waiting for their turn to be examined; there were more than 200 patients seen this time. The ENT clinic had 5 surgeries performed.
After being screened and checked by our volunteer eye doctor, they can have their free prescription glasses.
To some, this was the first time they've been able to see clearly for awhile.

May 10, 2013 to May 12, 2013 - Eye Clinic Mission, San Felipe, Mexico

Alex and Susan participated in an eye clinic mission for the needy in San Felipe, Mexico. This was a joint event with the Flying Samaritans, the San Felipe chapter of Lions Club, and the the Mission San Felipe Church. Alex and Susan were part of the Flying Samaritans contingent. The Flying Samaritans are pilots and volunteers bringing health professionals to Mexico on regular basis to conduct various health clinics to those, otherwise, have no access to regular health care. For this trip, the focus was eye health, and the Flying Samaritans flew-in an eye doctor, volunteers, eye exam equipment and prescription eye glasses to be given away.

Alex helped coordinate "patients" go through different exam stations.
And more "patients" to be screened test; some can't see from severe cataract and will require additional follow-up.
As patients wait for their turn to the checked, the church showed some Disney and cartoon movies (-in Spanish).
Among other projects of the Mission San Felipe Church is an orphanage; and some of the patients were from the orphanage.
At the end of the clinic, about 150 were examined and given new visions.
Some of the last patients were special patients.
A follow-up clinic is scheduled in October this year.
As we get ready for our return flight the follwing day, Susan greeted a beautiful sunrise.
