Alex's Flying Trips

Red Bluff Revisited (RBL)

Dec. 8, 2020

Two cylinders of the Archer was just replaced and part of the break-in procedure was to fly the Archer at least at 1 hour leg for the first 10 hours. To help the break-in process, I decided to fly the Archer to Red Bluff; it's exactly 1 hour from Napa. Last time I landed in Red Bluff was in 2018 and was flying the Cessna then.

For my arrival, I entered the pattern at left 45 for Runway 33. Runway and taxiways were well marked and in good condition. Transient parking near the airport office have chain tie downs. The restrooms outside the terminal office were open and somewhat clean.

There were changes in the terminal building from my last visit. The restaurant used to be at the second floor has been moved to the first floor where the little aviation museum used to be. The current restaurant is called Breezy's Wings and Wheels. I took a peak inside and was concerned that dining was indoors (no outdoor seating), the tables didn't looked socially distanced and no one was wearing mask, including the wait staff. In fact, I feel out of place walking around the airport wearing a mask; maybe Covid-19 is not a big deal in Red Bluff? Anyway, I decided not to dine in and fly back to Napa.

It was a smooth return flight and helped break-in the new cylinders.

View of Sutter Butte from a far.
View inside the airport terminal building. Inside the building is the airport office, a restaurant called Breezy's Wings and Wheels, and restrooms.
Outside the terminal building. I didn't see any stores or other dining places within walking distance; the surrounding area are mostly office and industrial buildings.
Found this model airplane outside the airport.
